What is bankroll?
Definition and example from our casino glossary.
Definition
A bankroll is the amount of money you set aside for gambling, kept separate from funds needed for living costs, savings or debts.
Bankroll management means deciding in advance how much you are prepared to lose and structuring play around that figure. A practical approach is to set a monthly gambling budget from discretionary income, divide it into sessions, and choose stakes so that each session allows a reasonable number of bets. Volatility matters: a high-volatility slot can use up a session budget much faster than a low-volatility one at the same stake. Bankroll management does not change the house edge or turn a negative expectation into a positive one; it controls how quickly and how much you can lose. Money set aside for gambling is best treated as spent the moment it is deposited. Any winnings are something to withdraw, not a signal to raise stakes. Deposit and loss limits turn a mental budget into a firm one.
