What is high roller?

Definition and example from our casino glossary.

Definition

A high roller is a player who stakes amounts well above the typical range, often with access to higher limits and personal account management.

Casinos categorise customers by value, and players who stake or deposit large sums may be treated as high rollers. They may be offered higher table and withdrawal limits, faster payouts, dedicated account managers, bespoke bonuses and invitations to events. The threshold is relative to the operator and market, not a fixed amount. High stakes magnify the usual maths: at a 2.70% house edge, 100,000 in turnover has an expected loss of 2,700, regardless of the player's experience or status. Regulators in several markets have scrutinised high-value customer schemes because incentives for big spenders have, in documented enforcement cases, accompanied serious gambling harm. Higher spending also triggers source of funds and affordability checks. If you are offered high-roller treatment, consider the reason behind it: the casino's interest lies in your continued turnover.
