Definition
A VIP programme is a tiered loyalty scheme that rewards players with benefits based on how much they stake or lose.
VIP or loyalty programmes award points for each amount wagered, and points accumulate into levels with progressively larger benefits: cashback, faster withdrawals, personal account managers, gifts and bespoke bonuses. Some programmes are open to all customers; others are by invitation only. The value of loyalty points is usually small relative to turnover, often a fraction of a percent of the amount staked. Because benefits rise with spending, VIP schemes can encourage players to gamble more in order to reach or keep a level. Regulators in Great Britain and elsewhere have tightened rules on high-value customer schemes, requiring operators to check that participants can afford their spending. If you take part, judge the scheme by the benefit per unit staked rather than the headline perks, and never increase your play to reach the next tier.
