What is max bet (bonus rule)?

Definition and example from our casino glossary.

Definition

The max bet rule limits your stake per spin or hand while a bonus is active; exceeding it can void the bonus and its winnings.

Most bonus terms include a maximum bet that applies until wagering is completed or the bonus is forfeited. It is usually a fixed amount, such as 5 per spin or round, or a percentage of the bonus. The rule exists because large stakes increase the chance of a short, lucky swing that clears wagering quickly, which the operator prices out. For the player, the risk is administrative: a single bet above the limit, even placed by mistake, may allow the casino to remove the bonus and all winnings generated with it. Some sites block over-limit bets automatically; many do not. The limit can also apply to gamble features, bonus buys and side bets, and it may be counted per round on multi-hand games. Before playing with an active bonus, note the max bet, set your stake below it, and avoid features that silently raise the effective stake.
