What is playthrough?

Definition and example from our casino glossary.

Definition

Playthrough is another name for the wagering requirement: the volume of qualifying bets needed before bonus-linked funds become withdrawable.

Playthrough, also called rollover or turnover requirement, describes the same mechanism as a wagering requirement, and casinos use the terms interchangeably. The word emphasises that you must play through a stated amount, not lose it: a 1,000 playthrough is met by placing 1,000 in bets, whether those bets win or lose. Winnings returned to the balance can be re-staked and still count. What matters for progress is turnover on eligible games, adjusted for game weighting. Many casinos show a progress bar in the account area; it is worth checking that it moves as expected, because bets above the maximum stake or on excluded games may not count and can even void the bonus. Playthrough does not change the underlying odds of any game. The more you must turn over, the longer the house edge works against the balance, so a lower playthrough is generally the more realistic offer.
