What is wild symbol?
Definition and example from our casino glossary.
Definition
A wild is a slot symbol that substitutes for other symbols to complete winning combinations, usually excluding scatters and bonus symbols.
Wild symbols act like a joker. When a wild lands where it can complete a combination, the game treats it as whichever symbol produces the best payout. Most wilds cannot replace scatter or bonus symbols. Variants are common: expanding wilds fill an entire reel, sticky wilds stay in place for several spins, walking wilds move one position per spin, and multiplier wilds multiply any win they help to form. Some games also pay for combinations made of wilds alone. Like every slot feature, wilds are part of the designed RTP, not an addition to it. A game with frequent wilds is not more generous; it simply distributes its return differently. Understanding how wilds behave in a specific game is still useful, because it explains why some features are worth far more than others and why large outcomes cluster around them.
