What is live dealer?

Definition and example from our casino glossary.

Definition

Live dealer games stream a real croupier and physical equipment from a studio, with bets placed through an online interface.

Live dealer, or live casino, games are broadcast in real time from studios or land-based casinos. A human dealer spins a physical roulette wheel, deals cards from a shoe or runs a game-show wheel, and recognition technology converts the physical result into data for the betting interface. Because outcomes come from physical equipment rather than an RNG, fairness depends on studio controls, equipment checks and regulatory oversight of the provider. The house edge follows the game rules: live European roulette keeps the 2.70% of its single-zero layout, while game shows often carry higher edges that vary from bet to bet. Live games are frequently excluded from bonus wagering or weighted low. They run at a slower pace than RNG games, which can help with time control, although side bets and playing several seats can increase the amount staked per round.
