What is game provider?

Definition and example from our casino glossary.

Definition

A game provider is the studio that develops and supplies casino games, which operators then license and offer on their own sites.

Most online casinos do not build their own games. Providers design the maths, graphics and features, have the games certified by test laboratories, and distribute them to licensed operators, usually through aggregation platforms. In regulated markets, providers need their own supplier licences, and each game must be approved before release in that market. The provider sets the available RTP versions, the max win, the volatility and the features; the operator chooses which version to activate. Established providers publish game rules and RTP figures openly, which makes it possible to compare games across casinos. Because the same title can appear at many sites with different RTP settings, checking the information screen at each casino is worthwhile. Games from recognised, licensed providers are a positive sign, while unknown copies of popular titles are a reason for caution.
