Monopoly Live Explained: How the Game Show Works

How Evolution's Monopoly Live works: wheel segments, Chance multipliers, the Mr Monopoly board bonus and why RTP ranges from 91.30% to 96.23%.

Industry

Monopoly Live is an Evolution game show, launched in April 2019, built on a 54-segment money wheel. You bet on 1, 2, 5, 10, 2 Rolls or 4 Rolls; the Rolls segments start a 3D board bonus with Mr Monopoly. The optimal RTP is 96.23%.

In short

Monopoly Live is a licensed Monopoly edition of Evolution’s Dream Catcher money wheel. The wheel holds 22 segments for 1, 15 for 2, 7 for 5, 4 for 10, two Chance, three 2 Rolls and one 4 Rolls. Chance segments award a cash prize or a multiplier for the next spin. The Rolls segments send Mr Monopoly around a virtual board to collect prizes. RTPs differ sharply by bet: 96.23% on 2 and 96.02% on 10, but only 91.30% on 5. Online money games are banned in India.

What is Monopoly Live?

Monopoly Live is a live casino game show by Evolution, based on Hasbro’s Monopoly board game. Evolution launched it on 11 April 2019 under a sublicence from Scientific Games. A host spins the wheel, and a virtual Mr Monopoly plays the bonus.

Evolution’s press release calls Monopoly Live a special edition of its Dream Catcher money wheel, launched in 2017. The bonus adds studio dice and augmented-reality graphics. It sits in the same game show family as Crazy Time, which we cover in our pillar guide.

How is the Monopoly Live wheel divided?

The Monopoly Live wheel has 54 equal segments: 48 numbers, two Chance, three 2 Rolls and one 4 Rolls. Number bets pay their face value to one, with the stake returned. Chance is not a bet spot; it triggers for every player.

Segment Count Hit chance Pays Base return
1 22 40.74% 1 to 1 22/54 × 2 = 81.48%
2 15 27.78% 2 to 1 15/54 × 3 = 83.33%
5 7 12.96% 5 to 1 7/54 × 6 = 77.78%
10 4 7.41% 10 to 1 4/54 × 11 = 81.48%
Chance 2 3.70% Cash prize or multiplier Not a bet spot
2 Rolls 3 5.56% Bonus game Depends on bonus
4 Rolls 1 1.85% Bonus game Depends on bonus

The base return ignores Chance. The gap to the published RTP comes from Chance multipliers, which carry your bet into the next spin.

What happens on Chance, 2 Rolls and 4 Rolls?

Chance gives every player a cash prize or a multiplier. 2 Rolls and 4 Rolls start the bonus game, but only for players who backed that spot. Mr Monopoly then walks the 3D board and collects a prize on each square.

  1. Chance, cash. Each player wins the random cash amount on the card, and the bet is returned.
  2. Chance, multiplier. All bets stay in place and the wheel spins again. Evolution’s example: €100 on 5 with an 8x Chance card wins 100 × 5 × 8 = €4,000 if 5 hits next. A second multiplier multiplies the first.
  3. 2 Rolls or 4 Rolls. A pair of dice is rolled two or four times in the studio. Mr Monopoly moves by the total of each roll. A double gives an extra roll, except when it is used to get out of Jail.
  4. Board rules. Houses and hotels raise property prizes. Passing GO doubles all later prizes. Income Tax cuts the bonus win by 10% and Super Tax by 20%.

The Loto-Québec version of the rules caps winnings from a single round at $5,000 or 20,000 times the bet. Limits differ between operators, so check the limits panel at your table.

What is the RTP of each Monopoly Live bet?

Monopoly Live has an optimal theoretical RTP of 96.23%, according to Evolution’s rules. That figure belongs to the number 2 bet. The other bets return less: 96.02% on 10, 93.90% on 2 Rolls, 93.67% on 4 Rolls, 92.88% on 1 and 91.30% on 5.

Bet Published RTP House edge Expected loss per €100 staked
2 96.23% 3.77% €3.77
10 96.02% 3.98% €3.98
2 Rolls 93.90% 6.10% €6.10
4 Rolls 93.67% 6.33% €6.33
1 92.88% 7.12% €7.12
5 91.30% 8.70% €8.70

The spread is large. Staking €100 on 5 costs €8.70 on average, which is 2.3 times the €3.77 cost on 2. Our RTP and house edge calculator converts any of these figures into a session cost.

Editor’s insight

Number 1 looks like the safe bet because it hits 40.74% of the time, yet its RTP of 92.88% is the second lowest on the table. The reason lies in Chance. Numbers 1 and 10 share the same base return of 81.48%, but Chance multipliers add about 11.4 percentage points to 1 and 14.5 points to 10. Hit frequency and return are different things. A player who wants fewer losing spins and a player who wants the lowest cost should choose different spots.

How does Monopoly Live compare with Crazy Time?

Monopoly Live and Crazy Time both use a 54-segment Evolution money wheel. Monopoly Live has one bonus game and Chance multipliers; Crazy Time has four bonus games and a Top Slot on every spin. Top RTPs are 96.23% and 96.08%.

Feature Monopoly Live Crazy Time
Launch April 2019 July 2020
Wheel segments 54 54
Bonus segments 4 (2 Rolls, 4 Rolls) 9 (four bonus games)
Multiplier source Chance cards Top Slot every spin
Optimal RTP 96.23% 96.08%
Lowest bet RTP 91.30% (5) 94.33% (Pachinko, one version)

We apply the 2-number rule to any money wheel: read the highest and the lowest bet RTP in the help file before you bet. In Monopoly Live the gap is 4.93 percentage points. If you play, stay on the spots near the top of that range.

Is Monopoly Live legal to play in India?

Monopoly Live is not legal to play for real money in India as of October 2026. The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act 2025 bans all online money games, and its rules have been in force since 1 May 2026.

India is the main market for Monopoly Live searches. The Act also bars banks and payment systems from processing payments for online money games. Our India legal guide explains the law. Gambling Hero does not encourage anyone in India to play Monopoly Live for money. Where live casino games are licensed, such as Great Britain under the UK Gambling Commission, play only at licensed operators.

Important

Under India’s online gaming law, offering or facilitating an online money game can lead to up to three years in prison, a fine of up to ₹1 crore, or both (PIB, as of October 2026). Everywhere else, remember that every Monopoly Live bet carries a house edge of 3.77% to 8.70%. Set a budget first and use the tools on our responsible gambling page.

Our take

Monopoly Live is a well-made game with a price list that varies sharply by spot. The board bonus is the show, but the 2 Rolls and 4 Rolls spots that unlock it return under 94%, and the most frequent winner, number 1, returns under 93%. Only two bets, 2 and 10, sit near 96%. We think that is acceptable for a game played for entertainment, as long as players know the cost per spot. Read the RTP table, keep stakes small and treat the bonus as a cost, not a target. In India, do not play it for money.
