What is bonus code?

Definition and example from our casino glossary.

Definition

A bonus code is a string you enter at registration or deposit to activate a specific promotion; without it, the offer may not apply.

Bonus codes, also called promo or coupon codes, link a deposit or account to a particular offer. Operators use them to run several promotions at once, to track which partner or campaign brought a player, and to give different terms to different audiences. A code is usually entered in the cashier before confirming a deposit, or in a field during sign-up. If it is forgotten, most casinos will not add the bonus afterwards, although support sometimes can. The code itself has no special value: the terms attached to it determine whether the offer is worthwhile. An exclusive code advertised by an affiliate may have better or worse terms than the public offer, so compare wagering, max cashout and expiry. Also check whether entering a code opts you into a bonus you would rather decline, since an active bonus often restricts withdrawals.
