What is licence number?
Definition and example from our casino glossary.
Definition
The licence number is the unique identifier a regulator assigns to a licence, used to verify an operator in the regulator's public register.
Every legitimate licence has a reference number, typically shown in the website footer, on an about page or in the terms and conditions, together with the company name and registered address. On its own, the number proves nothing; its value lies in checking it. Go to the regulator's official website directly, not through a link on the casino site, and search the register for the number. Confirm that the status is active, that the licensee name matches the company named in the casino's terms, and that the domain is listed where the register includes domains. Mismatches are warning signs: a different company name, a suspended or revoked status, a seal that links to an unrelated page, or a number that does not appear at all. Some groups run many sites under one licence, which is legitimate if the domain is covered.
