Algeria bans gambling in general, and the ban covers online casinos, poker and private sports betting. The Penal Code penalises running gambling activity without authorisation. The only legal games are state-run: the lottery and sports pools sold by Pari Sportif Algérien, and pari-mutuel horse-race betting run by the Société des Courses Hippiques et du Pari Mutuel at the country's racecourses. No law or regulator provides for licensing private online gambling, so no online casino can be authorised.
Enforcement targets organisers. In May 2025 police in Béjaïa detained two men accused of running online sports betting and casino services. The charges included illegal online betting, breaches of foreign exchange rules and money laundering, and investigators seized cash in dinars and euros. Algeria has run internet filtering since around 2010, and many gambling sites are reported to be inaccessible, although no specific legal blocking procedure was found.
Online casino play is not legal in Algeria; no operator can be licensed for it.
There is no legal online casino in Algeria, and using crypto-assets is itself an offence since July 2025. The state lottery, sports pools and on-course horse-race betting are the only legal games.
