MGA licensed casinos

What the Malta Gaming Authority licence means for players, how to check it in the official register, and every casino in our database that holds it.

Tier 1

Short answer

The Malta Gaming Authority is the single regulator for all forms of gaming in Malta and one of the most widely used licensing bodies for online casinos that serve international markets. It took over the role of the former Lotteries and Gaming Authority and now licenses both consumer-facing operators and business-to-business suppliers.

About the Malta Gaming Authority

The authority checks applicants, supervises compliance with technical, anti-money-laundering and player-protection rules, and can fine, suspend or cancel a licence. Players can confirm whether a company or website is authorised by searching the official Licensee Register on the MGA website. The MGA regularly warns that a licence badge on a casino's own pages is not proof, because some sites copy its name. When a dispute with a licensed operator is not settled through the operator's own complaints procedure, the player can take it to the MGA's Player Support Unit or to an approved alternative dispute resolution entity. An MGA licence does not make an operator legal in every country, so players should also check the rules where they live.

How to check a licenceSearch the operator's company name or website in the MGA Licensee Register. A licence claim or logo on the casino's own site is not proof; the MGA has published warnings about sites that falsely claim to be MGA-licensed.
Complaints / ADRComplain to the operator first. If the operator's answer is unsatisfactory, refer the complaint to the MGA Player Support Unit (https://www.mga.org.mt/player-hub/lodge-a-complaint/) or to an alternative dispute resolution (ADR) entity. The MGA has published an ADR Directive for licensees.
Player protectionThe MGA requires licensees to run an internal complaints procedure and gives players access to its own Player Support Unit or an ADR entity. It publishes public notices about websites that impersonate licensed operators. It can fine, suspend or cancel licences.
