Legal situation in Slovakia
Slovakia regulates gambling under Act No. 30/2019 Coll. on gambling games (zákon o hazardných hrách). Parliament passed the act in December 2018 and overrode a presidential veto in January 2019. It opened the online market to private operators, and since 1 March 2019 domestic and EU operators can apply for online casino and betting licences. Licences run for ten years. The Gambling Regulatory Authority (ÚRHH) issues licences, supervises operators and publishes the lists of licensed operators and legal websites. Lotteries remain a monopoly of the state company TIPOS.
Gambling offered to players in Slovakia without a Slovak licence is a prohibited offer. Under § 85 of the act, ÚRHH keeps a list of prohibited offers, updated every Monday, and internet and mobile providers must block access to the listed websites and apps. By September 2026 the list held more than 1,000 domains. A provider that fails to block can be fined up to 500,000 euros, and ÚRHH has already fined several providers. Promoting illegal gambling is also sanctioned, and sports associations face fines of up to 250,000 euros.
Online casino play is legal for players in Slovakia on sites run by operators licensed by ÚRHH, which are listed on its list of legal websites.
Check the operator on ÚRHH's list of legal websites before you deposit. To self-exclude, submit a signed application to ÚRHH to enter the Register of Excluded Persons; the RVO information line is 0800 127 000.
