Legal situation in Belgium
Belgium regulates gambling under the Act of 7 May 1999 on games of chance, betting, gaming establishments and the protection of players. The Belgian Gaming Commission is the supervisory authority. Online gambling is licensed only through supplementary licences: A+ for casino games, B+ for slot arcade games and F1+ for betting. The Act reserves them for holders of the matching land-based licence (A, B or F1). Each holder may receive at most one supplementary licence, which may cover only games of the same kind it offers on land. Because the Act caps the number of land-based casinos at nine, the number of online casino operators is limited as well.
The Law of 18 February 2024 raised the minimum age to 21 for all games of chance from 1 September 2024. Under the Gaming Act, people under 21 may not play online, and the 2024 law also bans bonuses, free games and gifts used to attract or keep players. Online play is subject to a limit of €200 per week per player. Players can ask the Commission for an access ban, and people close to them can request one too.
Online casino play is legal for players aged 21 and over only on sites holding a Belgian A+ licence, which is tied to one of the country's licensed land-based casinos.
Look for the 'Always Play Legally' logo and a Belgian Gaming Commission licence before you play. An access ban can be requested from the Commission voluntarily or by someone close to you.
